The COVID Guide is a set of lists to help business leaders respond to the emergency of our day faster. The idea was planted on March 14th when a few of our clients were forced to transition from onsite operations to a work at home model in a short time. At the time, everyone was making their own checklists and many were starting from scratch. We share our collective experience and expertise to help people make better checklists, to help their business stay on top, and to fight this common enemy of today.
The reason for the lists is simple, when we share our knowledge, we can overcome the challenges of our time faster and better. For example, in aviation, all knowledge about airline safety from any country and any regulatory authority is shared widely and everyone’s procedures are immediately updated. People can travel the air safely because of people sharing information freely. We wouldn’t have safe air travel if the US kept its knowledge to itself, and Germany did the same, and Japan did the same…you get the idea.
We are doing the same here and sharing our checklists with you. We encourage you to do the same. Let’s share best practices and fight this common enemy!
Why A Series of Lists?
The idea for lists has spurred from the mind of Atul Gawade who states in his book, "The Checklist Manifesto" that checklists are a powerful tool for precision and improved outcomes in any profession. Modern advances have given us a tremendous amount of information but, instances of failure still happen in healthcare, law, government, the financial industry and more. The reason is simple: the volume and complexity of knowledge today has exceeded our ability as individuals to deliver it consistently, correctly, and safely.
Atul Gawande makes a compelling argument that we can do better, using the simplest of methods: the checklist. In riveting stories, he reveals what checklists can do, what they can’t, and how they could bring about striking improvements in a variety of fields, from medicine and disaster recovery to professions and businesses of all kinds.
